“Every writer’s story is different,” says bestselling thriller novelist Rick Pullen. “Lee Child’s path was easy and fast, but it has a great backstory. Steve Berry was turned down 86 times before becoming a New York Times bestselling author.”
The editors at CrimeReads.com, captivated by Pullen’s tales and observations of famous thriller writers in a series of interviews, have hired Pullen to write a monthly column for their 900,000 readers about how famous thriller and mystery authors battled to get their first novels published.
Pullen says the column is for readers who want to learn more about their favorite authors, as well as for those who aspire to write a novel and want to learn how successful authors did it.
His first column, on novelist Lee Child, is scheduled to run on April 2 on the free CrimeReads.com website and in its online newsletter. Four of the columns already are posted on Pullen’s website; fans can read the backstory about his interviews by subscribing to his blog.
Other thriller authors Pullen has interviewed include: Michael Connelly, David Morrell, Tess Gerritsen, Steve Berry, Gayle Lynds, Scott Turow and Randy Wayne White. In coming months, those authors will discuss their journey of getting to the pivotal point in their careers where they finally got published. Pullen eventually plans to combine the stories into a book.
Pullen is the author of the bestseller Naked Ambition, its sequel Naked Truth and a stand-alone thriller The Apprentice. He is currently working on a stand-alone novel about a retired reporter who returns to his Virginia hometown only to be drawn into a controversial court case involving a wrongly convicted man.
CrimeReads.com carries news, profiles and reviews of mystery, crime, suspense and thriller novels and their authors.
